Suggested Design Point: Le Fitz Roy, French Alps
Name: Le Fitz Roy
Designer: Gilles Leborgne
Address: Place de l’Eglise, 73440 Val Thorens, France
Set at an altitude of 2,300 meters, the iconic Le Fitz Roy sits in the center of the highest ski resort in Europe, Val Thorens. Having been the meeting spot for mountain enthusiasts since it was built, this legendary chalet in the French Alps has been renovated to retain its regional Savoyard authenticity and updated to a new standard of luxury.
An unpretentious sense of charm and service give this French mountain hotel a “grand family chalet” atmosphere. The spacious 58 rooms and suites also bring together the classic and the contemporary, creating discreet elegance.
A south-facing sun terrace overlooking the slopes is the “place to be,” while the Fitz Roy, renowned for its excellent take on modern French cuisine, is not to be missed. An in-house ski shop is on hand to help both novices and experts tackle the 600kms of slopes that surround Le Fitz Roy. And after a day of skiing, the hotel’s spa has a swimming pool carved out of the mountainside, a Turkish bath, and sauna to complete the experience.
CLASSIC WITH A CONTEMPORARY TWIST
In the bar, interior architect Gilles Leborgne chose deep sofas by Maxalto, pieces by Hans Wegner, and Baxter slice tables for a chic, relaxed setting. He has completely renovated the iconic Le Fitz Roy, “expressing a desire to disrupt fashions and trends.”
